We like to make a surface spray using pure-water and a splash of Dr Bronner's castile soap. We use it all around the house including on granite countertops. It is an alkaline soap, a neutral PH of 7 is ideal for stone. However, we use a very dilute solution (approx. 15ml in a 450 ml bottle). We always recommend that you rinse natural stone surfaces, which isn't as much of a faff as it sounds. We love Dr Bronner's lemon-scented castile soap, but you can also buy it unscented and create fragrances with a few drops of your favourite essential oils. Castile soap is a vegetable-based soap, traditionally made from olive oil. It is available in bar or liquid form. It is free from animal ingredients, non-toxic and biodegradable. A little goes a long way, so it saves money and reduces plastic waste compared to buying single-use spray bottles. The internet is awash (pardon the pun) with recipes and uses for Castile soap. We'd love to know if you use it for anything else. You can find castile soap on Amazon.co.uk. We use it with Excel microfibre cloths (also available from Amazon). They are really soft, absorbent and last well compared to other brands we have used.
